Dame Barbara Rae CBE RA’s time in the United States in the 90s and early 2000s brought her into contact with vast environments, whose scale, light, and heat informed her work. Central to Barbara’s work is investigating the social history. Understanding how, in the slow eddies of time, people acclimate to an ever changing landscape.

In Desert Stone, Rae evokes this terrain through layered textures and sun-saturated hues, capturing both the physical presence and enduring memory of the American landscape.
